Project Objective

The proposed project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement for the flexural strengthening of a damaged PC girder. The demonstration will consist of design, field construction, and performance monitoring. The proposed project will lead to a bridge strengthening protocol for consideration by MoDOT.

Project Abstract

The project will consist of design, field construction (by DOT personnel), and performance monitoring of a structural repair of an impacted PC bridge girder. The behavior of the structural repair will be closely monitored over the course of three to five years. In addition, patches of externally bonded FRP with known defects will be monitored and samples taken to the laboratory over time for mechanical characterization to verify the durability of the system.
