Project Objective

Develop design and installation procedures and design software for the installation of torque anchor foundations used for rapid installation and foundation support.

Project Abstract

It is proposed that the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla develop a comprehensive construction and design manual for helical anchors and foundation systems. The design manuals will bring together the state-of-the-art in helical anchor and foundation systems design and the state-of-the-practice in helical anchor and foundation system construction. The scope of work is as follows:
1.Conduct a thorough review of existing literature
2.Interview key personnel who have experience in the design and construction of helical anchors and foundation systems to define successfully installation techniques.
3.Compile the information into a comprehensive document that would serve as a reference for both designers and installers of helical anchors and foundation systems.
4.Develop design software based on the state-of-the-art design procedures for helical anchors and foundation systems.
5.Present the results of this work in appropriate forums including geotechnical engineering journals and research symposia.

Anticipated Benefits

Develop new and advanced procedures for determining the capacity of torque (helical) foundations used for tiebacks for retaining walls and for rapid deployment foundations used in the transportation (and other) industry.

Modal Orientation

Bridge and abutment support
